Day2: Zhangmu-Nyelam / 30km
Highlights: One more day's acclimatization
Schedule today: Today we will only drive 30 km on the zig-zag road along the deep and long Zhangmu Valley till town of Nyelam, there we will stop one more night for acclimatization purpose only.
Day3: Nyelam-Saga / 240 km
Highlights: Mt. Shishapangma, Pekutso Lake
Schedule today: Drive slowly ascending to Saga town, most of the way is well paved; on the way, you can see Mt. Shishapangma, the only 8000m + mountain that totally within the territory of Tibet. On the way, you could also see Pekutso Lake, largest inland lake in Shigatse area.
Day4: Saga-Manasarovar Lake / 480 km
Highlights: Manasarovar Lake
Schedule today: Prior to Mt. Kailash trekking, you have to transverse along 270 km distance from Paryang to Lake Manasorovar. This route takes you to the amazing and holy Manasarovar Lake stunningly set on the Tibetan plateau bordered by the majestic Gurla Mandata. As you approach this sacred lake, historic Chiu Monastery will come into your sight on the north-west shore of the lake. From this vantage point, you can even get a glimpse of the majestic Mt. Kailash and Gurla Mandata. This journey leaves your spirit fulfilled. Overnight at the guest house, dorm bed.
Day5: Manasarovar Lake-Zhada / 240 km
Highlights: Tholing Mound Forest, Tholing Monastery
Schedule today: Drive from Darchen to Zhada along the Xinjiang-Tibet Highway, and drive off the main highway after 150Km, goes across a few mountain passes, you will see the magnificent Tholing Mound Forest. In the afternoon, visit the Tholing Monastery. Overnight at Zhada.
Day6: Zhada-Guge Kingdom-Zhada / 40 km
Highlights: Guge Kingdom
Schedule today: Morning drive to Tsaparang Guge Kingdom ruins, in the vast valley of Sutlej river you can find ruins of ancient famous Guge kingdom among the remarkable sand-dunes, a number of temples are still intact and contain exquisite murals and decorative motifs, some are dating back more than 10,000 years, make a half day tour at there. Afternoon drive back to Zhada and have a rest or look around Zhada town. Overnight at Zhada.
Day7: Zhada-Mt. Kailash / 250 km
Highlights: Mt. Kailash
Schedule today: Drive to Darchen, where our guide and driver organize yaks and yak porters for the trekking in the following 3 days. Take good rest for the trekking in the coming 3 days.
Day 8 & 9 &10: Mt. Kailash Trekking
Highlights: Mt. Kailash Trekking
Schedule on day 8, 9 & 10: Trekking starts from today after everything organized in place. Kailash Mountain is known as a sacred mountain to four great Asian religions, Tibetan Buddhism, Hinduism, Jainism and Bon-and is considered by all to be the center of the universe around which suns, planets, and moon circle. It is believed that by finishing a kora around the mountain, one's sins can be removed completely. The Kora(trekking) will end at Tarchen too.
Day11: Mt.Kailash-Saga / 490 km
Drive from Tarchen back to Saga.
Day12: Saga-Shigatse / 470 km
From Saga, we drive to Shigatse that is the second largest city in Tibet.
Day 13: Shigatse-Lhasa
Highlights: Tashilumpo Monastery
Schedule today: In the morning, visit the Tashilumpo Monastery which is the seat of Panchen Lama, the equally important religious figure in Tibet as the Dalai Lama. The monastery was built by the first Dalai Lama in 1447, and inside the Monastery placed the highest statue of Buddha in Tibet which is 26.8 meters high. Drive back to Lhasa directly in the afternoon.
Day 14: Lhasa city tour
Highlights: Potala Palace, Johkang Temple, Backhor Street
Schedule today: In the morning, visit the symbol or landmark of Lhasa-Potala Palace, the successive Dalai Lama's winter residence. In the afternoon, visit the center of Tibetan Buddhism-Jorhkang Temple, where you will come across lots of devoted pilgrimages coming from every corner of Tibet. Both sites are under the list of the world cultural heritages by the UNISCO. Afterwards, free time for you to wander through the Backhor Street, the busiest street in old Lhasa quarter. One welcome dinner will be given for free today; you will have a chance to taste the most genuine local Tibetan food and drinks.
Day 15: Lhasa city tour
Highlights: Drepung Monastery, Sera Monastery
Schedule today: In the morning, we will visit Drepung Monastery which is the biggest Tibetan Buddhism College with the biggest number of monks in Tibet. The monastery used to be the winter residence of the Dalai Lama before the 5th Dalai Lama moved his residency to the Potala Palace. And in the afternoon, we will visit another influential Gelugpa Monastery-Sera Monastery, where the largest scale of scripture debating among monks is famous all across Tibet.
